Hello and happy tax season! January is here, which means it’s time to begin your annual 1099 processing. The good news is that PDI Enterprise provides both tools and resources to help simplify and speed up your e-filing process. Read on for some recent updates and tips to help you prepare.
Use the TIN Matching Service integration with PDI Enterprise
Have you ever filed with the IRS, only to receive a rejection because one of your 1099s contained an incorrect Taxpayer Identification Number? PDI Enterprise offers a built-in tool to help prevent this issue.
Using the TXTIN program in Enterprise, you can generate a file to upload to the IRS TIN Matching Service. The IRS verifies that all listed TINs are valid and returns a response file. You can then upload the response file back into PDI Enterprise to update the TIN status. From there, a summary report shows which vendors or customers were rejected, allowing you to request updated W-9 forms as needed.

Note these upcoming changes to IRS e-filing
In 2025, we shared that the IRS was rolling out a new e-filing system called the Information Returns Intake System, or IRIS. The IRS has since confirmed that Filing Information Returns Electronically, known as FIRE, will be retired starting with tax year 2026, which corresponds to filing season 2027.
Each e-filing system requires a separate Transmitter Control Code (TCC). If you plan to file through IRIS in the future, be sure to request an IRIS TCC well in advance, as processing can take several weeks.
PDI Enterprise will receive an enhancement to support IRIS e-filing as part of the 2026 product roadmap. We’ll also update the annual year-end guide to reflect this change. To summarize:
- Tax year 2025 (filing season 2026): File through the FIRE system
- Tax year 2026 (filing season 2027): File through the IRIS system

Review these year-end upgrades and alternative options
In previous years, you needed to upgrade to the PDI Enterprise year-end version to file with the IRS. This year you can either upgrade to the year-end version of PDI Enterprise (15.7 or 14.9.07) or get the required year-end filing changes that have been packaged into an SQL script that you can run on PDI Enterprise 13.9.0 or higher.
This low-impact SQL script is a helpful alternative if your primary goal is completing tax filings rather than adopting all the features of a full Enterprise release.
To request the SQL script, submit a support case through PDI Connections (login required). If you already opened a case with PDI Hosting Services to upgrade to the year-end version but only need the 1099 updates, you can update your case request to receive the SQL script instead. This approach significantly reduces the amount of post-upgrade testing required:

Keep these deadlines in mind
If you have not yet upgraded to the year-end version of PDI Enterprise or applied the SQL script, be sure to do so as soon as possible. The deadline for filing 1099-NEC forms is January 31. All other 1099 forms must be filed by March 31.
If you need additional time, you can request an automatic filing extension through the FIRE system by submitting Form 8809:
